Optional Assembled Practice Materials

The MAP Trainer has the option to use assembled materials for the medication administration skills session. This allows students opportunities to practice administering:

• More than one medication scheduled at the same time for the same individual
• Liquid medication
• PRN medication and corresponding documentation
• Schedule VI medication contained in a bottle

The MAP Trainer can provide each student with a reusable Medication Book, Count Book, and a set of mock medications for 4 characters.

Medication Books and Count Books

All documents required for assembled Medication Books and Count Books are located on mapmass.com.

The assembled books are meant to be reusable. After the medication administration practice sessions, the MAP Trainer will:

• replace used medication sheets in each Medication Book.
• review the Count Sheet pages in each Count Book to ensure the number in the "amount left" column matches the amount left in the corresponding blister packs. 
  • the Count Sheet pages should be replaced and/or corrected as needed.

If the MAP Trainer has staff practice and document a Shoulder-to-Shoulder Count, they will also replace the Count Signature Sheet as needed.

Mock Medications

The MAP Trainer will also need complete sets of mock blister-packaged countable “medications.” Complete sets can be ordered at cost (must pay shipping and handling) through UMass Chan Medical School (ordering link tbd by 11/17).

The MAP Trainer should number each set of the blister-packaged medication with the number of the corresponding Count Book.

To complete the set of mock medications, the MAP Trainer can also obtain medication bottles for mock Schedule VI medication and bottles for the mock liquid medication.  

If the MAP Trainer chooses the optional self-assembled practice materials, the Resource Packet must still be provided to students to continue medication administration practice between the end of training and the MAP Certification Test.

MAP Trainer Kits

If the MAP Trainer chooses to order at cost reusable, pre-assembled sets of supplies for medication administration practice session(s), the sets may be ordered here.

One Trainer Kit contains the following supplies:

• Medication Book binder with sleeve-protected pages  
• Count Book binder with sleeve-protected pages
• Mock medications
  • pill bottle, labeled and filled with mock medication
  • liquid bottle, labeled
• countable controlled blister packs for each character
• Medication storage container
• Medication cups

If the MAP Trainer does not choose the self-assembled or pre-assembled at cost option, each student will use the materials in their Resource Packet during the medication administration practice session(s).
